What Happens after Active Release Therapy

Chiropractors have a variety of tools and methods of chiropractic care that they can provide to their patients. One such option is Active Release Therapy, also known as Active Release Technique. Through the treatment of Active Release Technique, patients can find a wide degree of relief.

What is the Active Release Technique?

This technique is specifically designed to restore movement and work on your fascia. Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds all of your muscles. Under normal conditions, fascia is very pliable and will help to stabilize muscles. However, with time, injury, or age, your fascia can stiffen and make it more difficult for you to move your muscles.
That’s where Active Release Therapy (ART) can help. It involves directional force or tension through an adhesion or scar tissue as the soft tissue goes from a shortened down position to a length position.  It is like a deep tissue massage with motion but can accomplish much more in a shorter period of time.  It concentrates specifically on your soft tissues, like your muscles and fascia. It can also be very helpful at addressing problems with your tendons and ligaments.
The therapy may be painful at the time, but it can be exceptionally useful at reducing a variety of painful conditions and helping to restore movement and functionality to your body. Keeping your soft tissues healthy.

What happens to patients after Active Release Therapy?

Since it works on a variety of muscle groups, ART can be helpful at addressing numerous physical problems, including neck pain, shoulder pain, plantar fasciitis, and more.
In the immediate aftermath of ART, you may feel sore or achy. The areas that were worked on may be tender or inflamed since scar tissue and adhesions were broken up. This is both natural and normal, and soreness should resolve in a day or two. However, remember, the treatment of Active Release Technique is designed, in the long run, to smooth out your muscles and break down adhesions and scar tissue. This can be a painful process, but can often deliver near-miraculous results.
If done right, ART has the potential to help all of the issues noted above and more. Studies show that ART can help to reduce pain, remove stiffness, and restore muscle strength to areas that have been damaged by injuries or the buildup of scar tissue.
ART can help all of this and more. It’s important to remember that ART can be an important part of chiropractic care. If you are interested in ART, or any other related therapy that has a track record of success, make sure to reach out to our chiropractors.
