Staying Healthy While Traveling

Staying Healthy While Traveling | SF Custom ChiropracticWhether you are a road warrior always traveling for work or recreation, or you are someone who travels infrequently, you all know how tough it can be staying healthy while traveling. From the horrors of airport and airline food to the temptations on a road trip, your healthy diet can disappear almost as soon as your trip begins. And the availability of sugar or caffeine heavy drinks is not good for your health either. Then, there are the challenges of being in an unfamiliar place without a good gym or decent place to walk or run in sight! So, how can you stay healthy while on the road?
There are a few quick and easy ways for be staying healthy while traveling:

  • Research beforehand – The Internet makes it easier than ever to find any gyms or parks near your destination. If you just can’t find any facilities, look at your hotel itself. Though these are not often the best, many will have the equipment you’ll need to keep up with your schedule for basic weight training or running.
  • What to do if there are no facilities at all – If you have no access to any sort of gym or safe park sites, you have two more options. You can use stairwells and long hallways to do daily runs that incorporate all of the body weight movements you can possibly imagine. Workout until you are too tired to do any more and you should be good to go. For instance, two hundred walking lunges and a hundred push-ups midway through should do the trick! If you are uncomfortable doing this in an unfamiliar area – go for a long and brisk walk up and down stairs and halls. If you can carry some hand weights while doing this, even better. The point is to move and for as long as it takes to tire yourself out and keep be staying healthy while traveling. You could also try to do some mindful exercises or there are a multitude of stretches.
  •  Eating – This is the one that is the toughest for be staying healthy while traveling because you don’t have a lot of control over the food available. The top tips we can offer are to drink a lot of water, pack some snacks from home in your suitcase, stock your mini-fridge with clean food if available, and then do research ahead of time to find resources for two clean meals per day. There is sure to be a local spot for fresh food, and you can use that as your “go to”. Don’t forget to have a regular supplement as well. This is something that can offset any lost nutrients and ensure you are hydrated and healthy even if your diet is not up to its usual standards. Using those three steps, you can stay healthier than ever, and even on track with your training while traveling.
