National Pain Awareness Month

National Pain Awareness Month | SF Custom Chiropractic

Are you constantly in pain? You’re not alone. According to the Centers for Disease Control, slightly more than one in five Americans live in chronic pain. This is a massive number, and it makes finding new ways to face pain more important.
September is National Pain Awareness Month, a time when Americans can attempt to find new ways to recognize and treat their pain. Thankfully, there is no shortage of ways to do just that.
Among the most effective ways to treat pain: Chiropractic.

What can chiropractic be used to treat?

According to the evidence, visiting a chiropractor can be used to treat many forms of pain, including:

  • Ankylosing spondylitis
  • Arthritis
  • Back pain
  • Bursitis
  • Carpal tunnel
  • Cervical stenosis
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Chronic pain
  • Coccyx injury
  • Complex regional pain syndrome
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Failed back surgery syndrome
  • Headaches
  • Herniated disc
  • Intercostal neuralgia
  • Knee injury
  • Leg pain
  • Meralgia paresthesia
  • Migraines
  • Musculoskeletal pain
  • Myofascial pain
  • Myositis
  • Neck pain
  • Neuropathic pain
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Pelvic pain
  • Peripheral neuropathy
  • Pinched nerve
  • Polymyalgia rheumatic
  • Psoriatic arthritis
  • Radiculopathy
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • SI joint dysfunction
  • Sciatica
  • Spinal stenosis
  • Torticollis
  • TMJ disorders
  • TOS
  • Whiplash

Numerous studies have found that chiropractic can be very useful in providing long-term pain relief. This pain relief can come from a variety of sources, including:

  • Manual adjustments to your neck, spine, or other limbs, resulting in the removal of pain-inducing subluxations.
  • Use of specific instruments, like activators, that are designed to provide small adjustments that can result in major pain relief.
  • Stretching exercises or physical therapy can help treat pain in the long term.
  • Recommend appropriate medical care, such as braces or supports, that can help you manage your injuries or pain.
  • Refer you to other specialists who are experts at pain relief, thus providing you with an entire medical support team that can help you remove your pain.

Many professional medical organizations – such as the American College of Physicians – have specifically endorsed the use of chiropractic in certain pain relief treatment plans.

More than just pain

However, the evidence is also clear: You don’t have to be in pain to benefit from a visit to a chiropractor.  Visiting a chiropractor can help address a variety of issues in a preemptive manner, helping you find better posture, improve discomfort, and more. Furthermore, many chiropractors practice more than just chiropractic, preferring to operate in a holistic, integrated manner. This means that they may be qualified to provide nutrition advice, physical therapy, or massage.
A chiropractor can be great for pain treatment, and National Pain Awareness Month is the perfect time to keep this in mind. However, a chiropractor can help you with much more than just pain relief. Book an Appointment!
