SEMG

sEMGSurface Electromyography (sEMG) is a device which measures the amount of electrical activity your muscles release when they are contracting, more commonly known as muscle tension.  Muscle tension is one of your body’s natural defense mechanism to pain and injury, and over time, muscle holdings can become habitual and actually cause excess strain that may lead to misalignments in the spine and other joints of the body.

SEMG can be used to evaluate the status of the muscles in the body and can help the doctors determine the course of care.  The doctor can compare results over time to track your progress and more effectively document your health.  Sensors are placed directly onto your skin and receive the small electrical current, which comes from activated muscles.  The strength and pattern of the signal is transferred to the computer screen for a visual display of the data.  These images can be stored and referred back to in future appointments to assist in neuromuscular training and rehabilitation.  After receiving chiropractic care to eliminate unnecessary holdings and correct misalignments, your sEMG should normalize and balance over time.
